All of us in some form or fashion are part of a group of people. But, as believers, I want to make several points to help us better understand this family of faith. Last session ended with a passage from Acts 2 that stated what was happening in the gathering of people in the infancy of the church. That is the focus of this session. Description
Everyone, even the most introverted person wants to be and enjoys being part of a group. And in all walks of life, we find ourselves part of various groups. As Christians we become part of a group of people called “church.” A personal definition of “church” that I have arrived at is this: “An all-inclusive offer to all messed up people to come into an exclusive union of messed of people.” But to clarify two parts. Inclusive is to include everything. Open to all people. From last session, remember the gift Jesus offers. An exclusive meaning that it is available to people at a high cost. Jesus paid the price. We are they. Acts 2:46-47

We are church. As individuals we choose our level of involvement. For any organized group to function well there is often a leader. That leader has many roles and loads of responsibilities. This final session will focus particularly on one leader Christ gave to the church and that is pastors. I have been pastoring for the past twenty years. I have written in the front cover of my Bible several scriptures as a reminder of my position and my importance to the family of faith. It is a privilege God gives to those who shepherd His people and not one to be taken lightly. He instructs us as leaders using Himself as an example and a standard.

Description
The We Are They series is about getting back to the simplicity of faith and the church. This first session will center on Who are We? An identity crisis is a phrase used to describe when we lose ourselves. Crazy terms. But as crazy as it sounds, they are both very real and everyone has experienced them at some level or another. We find ourselves there when we face a precarious situation of doubt or fear. Sometimes when we feel empty. Or maybe when we feel we just do not fit. We ask questions like, just who am I? What am I here for? What is my purpose? Discover and experience all God has for you!

The answer is prayer because when we pray, we will give. God is calling us to a season of prayer. Too many times we are just getting by. Do not be willing to settle for a mediocre life. God wants us to press into your relationship with Him. If we truly evaluate the time we spend ready the Word and in prayer, does it need improvement? Be willing to pay the price, stay the course, and see the overcoming victory Christ can bring. Not only will we be changed, but those around us will be changed.

Witness His Resurrection – Felix’s Big Day | Tim Wright | Evangel Church On this day in Jerusalem, various details are unknown to us, such as the donkey’s name, the names of the disciples whom Jesus sent to get the donkey, nor the names of the people from which the donkey was borrowed and later returned. What we do know is that Jesus was at the center of this celebration. There was such hope among the Jewish people along the parade route because the people were beginning to believe that Jesus may be the long-awaited Messiah they had been waiting on for centuries. While Jesus was at the center of the celebration, the little donkey was right there too. The donkey, although a seemingly small detail now, represented a fulfillment of prophecy. The Messianic overtones from the chanting and singing of the crowds on that Palm Sunday stirred dreams of a new dynasty among the people of God. However, those same chanting voices would turn to “crucify him” withing the week’s end. They soon realized Jesus did not fit into their preconceived idea of a conquering King. Expectations did not line up with reality before them. Is that not how we are at times? We think of God one way in our minds, but our reality of Him can be quite different at times. Our expectations and who God is get reshaped the more we get to know Him through study of the Bible and relationship. Perhaps we could choose to do two things we see in the text of the Triumphal Entry. One, entrust what we have into the care of Jesus and say, “Yes.” The people allowing Jesus to use their donkey have no idea how the simplest thing will be used of God in a big way. Two, choose to celebrate. The people were singing songs and chanting truths of what they knew of God. Choose to rejoice today. Keep worshiping and looking up even when things in your life may be bringing you down. God sees you. God knows you. God has a plan for you. Stay available and ready.

Witness His Resurrection - Mary Magdalene

Description
Mary Magdalene had her whole life rescued, restored, put back together, and turned right-side up by Jesus. He wants to do the same for us. She is the woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons. She has the honor of being identified as the first person to witness the resurrected Jesus. In faithful devotion and appreciation to the One who claimed her during her own hell, she was there at the cross so Jesus would not suffer and die alone. While emotionally devastated she remained steadfast and near as He breathed His final breath. She likely sat in silent grief over the next hours and days before returning to the tomb to give proper attention to Jesus by anointing His body for burial. Little did she know she would hear the death-conquering Jesus call her name when she arrived. It brought her to her knees. In her initial encounter with the power of Jesus delivering her from demons she was changed from the inside out. She was a new creation in Christ. We are too if we have encountered Jesus in our lives. That is the reality we must hold on to as we walk through all our tomorrows. Let Him be Lord of our lives. Let us do our part, as Mary Magdalene did, to share with others about our encounters with Jesus and be witnesses to His life changing power.

Witness His Resurrection - The Sealer

Ever heard the saying from David Foster Wallace “You can’t unring a bell.” The same is true when it comes to what a person sees - You can’t unsee what you have seen. And make no mistake about it, what the Roman soldiers stationed at the tomb heard and witnessed during the early morning of the resurrection impacted them to their core. They never forgot what they experienced. They went and told the chief priests what had happened and immediately the cover-up started being conceived among the religious leaders. The Roman soldiers were bribed to lie. But that would not undo what had happened. The truth eventually comes out. Jesus resurrected and came out of the tomb. Sin and death were defeated. Jesus is risen! And because He is alive, we can be set free from spiritual death. As a follower of Jesus, authority from a sealed heart made alive in Christ by the Holy Spirit has been given to us to live out our salvation and share the message of hope to all we encounter.

Witness His Resurrection - The Woodworker

What if you could talk to someone who was there at the time of Jesus betrayal, His death, or His resurrection, what would they say? What personal experience did they encounter? What can we learn? Jesus was crucified on a cross. Imagine the woodworker who made that cross. Why was he making crosses anyway and how was he affected by this crucifixion? As we consider this, could it be there were misaligned priorities in his life? Let’s think deeper about priorities for a moment. In the famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus insists that a priority of outward obedience to God is not enough, it includes giving God our heart! A right heart leads to right living and a right attitude. Know this, spiritual problems are always heart problems. Jesus wants us all to consider: What is our priority? Who is our priority? Where are our eyes focused? The things we treasure most control our direction and values. Do you like the direction your life is going?

Jesus said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me." Mark 8:34 NLT These words of Jesus demand our full commitment to Him. To really follow Jesus in ALL (words, deeds, actions), we need to put aside our selfish desires and give our lives to Him.

Nothing is more important than our eternal soul. Make the decision now. The Good News is Jesus paid the price for our sin. But when we accept Jesus as Lord, we can no longer live however we want. Ask God to empower us with the Holy Spirit to take up our cross.

Have you taken up your cross? It is only when we crucify self that we live in genuine repentance. Repentance is a change of mind. When we change our mind, we also change our attitude, then we are likely to change our actions.We we change our minds about sinful behavior, we make the promise to God to stop loving only self, we promise to consider the needs of others, and we promise to serve Him placing His will and purpose above our own. It's a change of mind and attitude evident in our actions. Not just outward behavior modification, but deep inward transformation of the heart.

There is a cost involved in following Jesus. True discipleship is demanding. Place Him first. Christ gave everything for our salvation. Are you willing to take up your cross for Him?

The Old Covenant It was a system of laws, codes, rituals, and observances. Every time the people failed to live by the standards, they had to offer a sacrifice to God. It was impossible to completely follow the rules. Everyone was guilty. The purpose was to show people that they were guilty before God and needed a Savior.

The New Covenant Jesus became the only sacrifice that could pay the price for our sin! It is finished! No other sacrifices were required. It is finished!

The New Covenant between God and you Forgiveness for our sins. Promise of eternal life. Assurance of heaven. It is finished. What is our part of the covenant? To believe and receive by faith what Jesus did for us! Then in His strength and power live for Him and tell others about Him.
