Description
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12. The hardest thing to hand over to God is our time.

Walk Circumspectly To look round about on all hands; to be every way watchful, wary, and cautious, in order to avoid danger and discern enemies.Questions: Have I faithfully served God with the time He has given me? Have I shown God to those around me? The average Christian spends less than 15 minutes a week in prayer. Our day also should be invested in neighbors. We must prioritize our lives.

Redeeming the Time To buy up those moments others seem to throw away. Seizing opportunities to rescue or recover our time from waste. Let time be your chief commodity. Time is that on which eternity depends.

Relationships Require Our Time Time with people: We are not meant to be solitary creatures. We are to be social creatures. Godly relationships are important to our maturity as Christians. Having relationships requires time. Relationships are intentional. Time with God: We do not learn to walk with God in five minute devos. Devotions can't take the place of the Bible. The early church was continually devoted to the apostles' teaching and fellowship.

We all have 24 hours a day. Let us use our time wisely.

Description
No one really likes to hear a sermon about money, but in Scripture there are more than 2,000 verses that deal with money or possessions. So based on that it is a subject that needs to be talked about. In 1 Timothy we read that the love of money, not money, is the root of all kinds of evil. We all realize money is needed to live, so money in itself is not evil.

What you do with your money shows what you value with your heart. According to Luke 12, where your money goes your heart goes. So money is an indicator of where your heart is at. So let's talk about a some things you should do in regards to money.

Make a budget. Proverbs says the plans of the diligent leads to profit. A budget is simply a written plan. Track your spending, see where your money goes, and establish a budget.

Save for the future This is what Proverbs has to say - He who gathers little by little makes it grow. The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends everything. Ask yourself, "Am I saving money?"

Avoid debt The rich rule over the poor and the slave to the lender. We are better off to avoid consumer debt.

Put God first in your finances Honor the Lord with you wealth and your first fruits. The generous never seem to go without and are characterized by an joyful, loving spirit. Tithe simply means 10%. Why should we tithe? Out of gratitude for the past, to keep priorities straight for today, and demonstrate faith for tomorrow.

Money will not make you happy Instead of looking to wealth for fulfillment, look to God. Make sure your heart treasures God!

Description
In a game of "Tag" it's interesting to see what happens when someone is tagged "It". First, they are prey, running away, hiding, whatever it takes to avoid being tagged. But once they are tagged, it is evident to all who is "it". They are now the predator. They act differently. Instead of running away, they're running after. The same happens when we become a Christian. Now instead of trying to avoid God and the truth of His Word, we embrace it and our lives change. It is evident to those around us. When we hear truth, we believe and trust in the saving work of Jesus Christ. And by this act of faith, we receive the Holy Spirit as the seal and guarantee from God.

What does it mean to be sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise?

To authenticate as genuine and true

Being sealed with the Holy Spirit is God's way of authenticating the fact that we are now His
It's the presence of the Holy Spirit in us activating His gifts and talents, producing within us the fruit of the Spirit - their presence confirms that we are indeed Christians.

To mark someone's property

The seal of the Holy Spirit is internal
We are His because He purchased us through the price of Jesus Christ paid when He died on the cross for our sins

To make secure

His guarantee of our ultimate salvation

How is the Holy Spirit our guarantee?

A "down payment" - secures the transaction with a promise that more will come
God gave the Holy Spirit as a "down payment"
This present life in the Spirit is God's promise of something more
What we have experienced of the Holy Spirit is only a foretast

Certain things we must avoid:

Quenching the Holy Spirit
Grieving the Holy Spirit

When we quench or grieve the Holy Spirit we lose the joy of our salvation and the fullness of the Spirit's blessing.

How can we get back to the fullness?

It begins with repentance
Accept God's gift of salvation
Invite the Holy Spirit to come in and fill you to overflowing

It is time to stop and take an up to date inventory of our life. What is God doing? Recount His faithfulness and thank Him. Maybe even sit down and write a brief “thank you” note to God. Father, God, Lord – address Him as you recognize Him. Next, adore Him. Tell Him how you love Him. Then, what your you are thankful for at this moment. Lastly, until next time. Love, with your name. This is a good practice to help us maintain an awareness of God’s goodness around us every day.

Life is short! We must invest our time in that which is of eternal value. What do you value most in life? The answer is found in how we invest the precious minutes, hours, and days of our lives. The most valuable thing we have is time. The Bible exhorts us to think about that fact and invest every moment wisely. If we have discovered the hidden treasure of knowing Christ, why not spend our time making it known to others through our lives and our words. Do not ever take that discovery for granted. Cultivate a heart of gratitude, thanksgiving, and joy!

Description
Andrew receives little attention in the New Testament. John 1:40 serves as an introduction to Andrew. Aside from where he is listed among the disciples and passages recounting when Jesus first called the disciples, there are only three places where he has a significant role. There are a few things we know about Andrew from the book of John, but he is most remembered for bringing people to Jesus. Wow. The question for us is, “How will we be remembered?”

The first person mentioned in the gospel of John was the adult John the Baptist. His mission was clear and he gave his message of repentance and judgment equally to all. The nature of the message was more important than the name of the messenger. This humble attitude marked the life of John the Baptist as he prepared the way for Jesus. In his own words, “…Jesus, who must increase, but I (John) must decrease.” Though John the Baptist was martyred, his life had a lasting impact.

Description
Judas acted as treasurer for the disciples but was known as a miser and a thief who later betrayed Jesus. Why such a man was chosen to be a disciple we do not know. No exact answer can be given as to the motives that led Judas to betray Jesus. But Jesus knew from the beginning who would betray Him. We do know from the book of John that Satan controlled Judas and he was his spiritual father. Following the betrayal Judas had regret and admitted his sin, then he went and hanged himself. Why did Judas commit suicide? No reason is given, but perhaps it was unforgiveness. He had heard Jesus teach forgiveness. He knew Jesus would forgive him. He knew the disciples would forgive him because of what Jesus taught. But could Judas forgive himself?

The Book of John – Lazarus | Liz Dowdy | Evangel Church Lazarus. The Book of John records little more than facts of his death and resurrection. He was the only person in the New Testament that Jesus specifically addressed as a friend. And Jesus could have intervened in Lazarus situation and kept him from dying. But he did not. Why? Even Jesus groaned and wept over the death of his friend Lazarus. Nothing is told of Lazarus experiences between death and resurrection, of his emotions upon coming out of the tomb, of his subsequent life, and not a word of revelation does he give as to the other world. We do know that Jesus called him forth from the grave and he was raised to life again. Jesus is the resurrection and the life! And Lazarus was a silent friend who supported Jesus by his presence.

Description
Our first introduction to Martha is in Luke 10. She was the elder sister of Mary and Lazarus. Her family has the distinction of being ones whom Jesus loved. Martha loved through actions. She was a server at heart. Her life was a succession of things to be done, to be done right, and to be done now. Martha was one who gave hospitality to Jesus during His ministry. Jesus gently reminds her to remember why she was serving. She learned to trust God even in the difficult situation of her brother’s death, believing Christ is the Son of God. After Lazarus resurrection, again we see Martha serving, freed from worry and anxiety. She found fulfillment expressing love by serving others and Jesus. Just being who God created her to be.

The Book of John - Mary

Description
Mary, the worshiper. She was the sister of Martha and Lazarus. She learned truth sitting at the feet of Jesus. While it may appear that Mary was idle and listless leaving the burden of responsibility on her sister, Jesus said, “She has chosen the better part.” To be with Jesus and learn from Him was her desire. Jesus was able to bring Mary to a new level of worship, faith and trust through the death and resurrection of her brother Lazarus. She now was learning what it meant to worship in spirit. And she did it with abandonment when she broke out in a public act of devotion taking a pound of very costly oil, anointing the feet of Jesus, and wiping His feet with her hair. Though this may seem strange for her quiet disposition, it was natural to her deep emotion. Mary prepared the body of Christ for burial while He was still living by anointing it with precious oil. This was evidence of her overflowing love.

She was a woman who had been demon-possessed but became a believer and supporter of Jesus. She was the first person to see the resurrected Christ. She came into the circle of believers, marked from the rest by an exceptional experience of the Lord’s healing power. Then, to the end, with devotion, with intent and eager willingness, with courage even in the face of dangers which broke the courage of the chosen twelve, she followed and served her Lord.

From secrets to boldness. Each time Nicodemus is mentioned he speaks and acts bolder for Christ. First, he only secretly visits Jesus to seek information. Then, Nicodemus speaks up in Jesus’ defense. Lastly, Nicodemus is no longer intimidated by the Pharisees and takes physical action and helps remove Jesus from the cross. Where do you see yourself in the story of Nicodemus?

Description
The Gospel of John closes with the two most famous disciples of Jesus. Simon Peter, who was introduced in John 1, and John, the author of the Gospel. Simon Peter loved Jesus because Jesus saw who He could become. Peter vowed to follow Jesus because there was no other hope for life. Peter’s constant confession to Jesus was “I love you, I love you, I love you.” In contrast, John was just as adamant about how much Jesus loved him. At least five times in his Gospel, John refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. Unlike Peter, John did not boast about his love for God. John knew his was not strong enough or good enough. But because of who Jesus is, John could rest secure in His unlimited, perfect love.

The Book of John - Philip and Nathanael

Description
Two others mentioned in John 1 are Philip and Nathanael. This Philip is often confused with Philip the Evangelist, and it is unclear if he was the unnamed disciple of John the Baptist. But what we do know is this Philip was a catalyst for how Jesus would reveal Himself to others. We will talk more about that. He is probably best known for his encounter with Nathanael. Philip found Nathanael and told him that he had met Jesus, the one foretold by Moses and the prophets. Nathanael, an honest man, made it clear he was not impressed. Nevertheless, Nathanael chose to go with Philip to meet Jesus. And there his attitude was changed.

In John 9, we read about Jesus passing by a blind man. His disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind.” Jesus’ answer, neither. Just as happened then, when there is problem, we want to blame someone, and many times ultimately blame God. Jesus healed the man and God was glorified. The man received an unexpected miracle. It changed his life and the way others saw him. The change was so great that others would not believe his story. They wanted to know the who, how, why of things. The man did not have all the answers. But just as Jesus healed his physical need, He also returned to meet His spiritual need. Jesus revealed himself to the man. The man recognized Jesus as the Son of God and worshiped Him.

John 4 tells of a nobleman and his journey of faith. He was a king’s officer, and it is unknown if he was a Jew or Gentile. The important fact for us to know is he was a father with a son with a fever. The son needed healing and the father had heard of Jesus, so this gave him a reason for faith. His faith progresses through the story. What an example of God’s mysterious workings—a boy brought to the point of death that a whole house might have eternal life.

Description
Jesus left Judea and departed to Galilee. Traveling through Samaria he stopped at Jacob’s well. This is where a woman of Samaria came to draw water about the sixth hour. Jesus asked the woman for a drink of water. Jews and Samaritans had dealings with each other. Jesus broke the barrier by asking a favor. He goes on to offer this woman “living water”. Her thoughts were on material things. Jesus was not distracted but spoke in truth and grace getting to the very heart of the matter. The all-important thing for her was to find a Savior. He turned her attention to a subject of utmost importance, worshiping in spirit and in truth. She was transformed from a convicted sinner to a devoted saint.

Nothing is free anymore. It seems everything comes with a cost. Even a sample at a grocery store is given in hopes that it will lead you to purchase a product and make a payment. A transaction if you will. Romans 6:23 tells us about the product of sin and the cost is death. So, if the wage of sin is death, then what is the cost of grace? The cost was the death of Jesus. He gave so we can live. Live free of sin. But all have sinned. Know forgiveness is available for all.

The Criticizer

Description
“The Criticizer” is deadly and causes great harm, not only to the individuals they judge and criticize, but to the church, which is a representative of Jesus here on the earth. Before we get overly critical of others, there are several reasons to reevaluate. First, all the circumstances and facts are never truly known. Second, many times we ourselves fall short and fail. Finally, when we judge others, we are usurping God’s authority. Realize, according to Scripture, the same measure we use in judgment will be used to measure and judge us. Keep in mind the church is called to restore, to be compassionate, to pull people up, and to speak words of kindness and love. To stop critical and judgmental attitudes, we need to change our thinking. When we begin to see Jesus in our own life, then we will begin to see Jesus in the lives of others. Be more like Jesus, known as Christ-like, not as “The Criticizer.”

The Difference Maker

Description
Only the Person of the Holy Spirit provides the power to overcome our sinful nature. He is the Difference Maker for every believer. No one has to go to church to discover they are a sinner. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. He convicts and never condemns. Reconciliation with God by good works is impossible. We can not be good enough. It requires repentance and faith in the Savior. As we submit to the Holy Spirit transformation occurs inside and out.

The Feast of First Fruits

Description
The Feast of First Fruits commemorates Resurrection. Origin of the Feast came from the Exodus in the Old Testament where the children of Israel emerged from the sea – saved from the Egyptians, released from Pharaoh’s ownership, and delivered from bondage. After entering the Promised Land, the children of Israel would make a special day to acknowledge God’s blessing. Called the Feast of First Fruits. As we have seen in the study from previous feasts, this feast also parallels with Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus was the First Fruit of all who rise from the dead. He is alive forevermore. He ascended into heaven to present Himself to the Father as a sheaf of First Fruits. He was the unblemished Lamb of God, beaten for us, and offered through the Holy Spirit for a sweet aroma to God, and poured out as a Sacrifice. Believers have the new wine of His Spirit. Jesus the Great High Priest waved the offering for Himself and for us and we are accepted because of the blood of Jesus.

The Feast of Passover

This is the first in a series Jesus in the Old Testament Feasts. There were seven Feasts of the Lord mentioned in Leviticus 23, one being The Feast of Passover. As we look at all the details of this Old Testament feast in relation to Jesus and the New Testament, you will be amazed at how God plans everything out so precisely. The correlation between the Old and New is amazing and clearly shows how Passover can be applied to our lives today!
