Some people use the term “wise” and “shrewd” as synonymous but being shrewd suggest thinking a few steps ahead. It focuses more on outcomes. Giving up something for a long-term benefit. There is probably not a Christian anywhere who has not asked, “How long should I pray for something?” Or maybe you have heard, “If you really had enough faith, you would only have to ask God once for something.” I believe this is a contradiction to what Jesus taught. Jesus said we would get power to be able to speak into people’s lives to influence them for eternity. It should be our goal as a Christian to be an influencer for Christ. Why do we need the power of the Holy Spirit to witness to others about Jesus? Because the man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from God, they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Stir up the gift in you. Yield to the Spirit of God.

In this final session I have a here and now word for you. Do you have something you started at some point and never finished? Something you once worked at with great fervor, but has since faded? It is time to pick it up. Dust it off. Be reminded of the significance and importance of why you started it in the first place. Remember the word prodigal has to do with returning to what you know is good. So, pick up that “good thing” God placed in you. Now is the time to complete it. You lack nothing to completion. What you pursue and complete by God’s plan is not only for your benefit, but for the benefit of others around you.

Remember the word prodigal is given to the one that returns to what he knows is good, not the one that remains absent. Say with me, “I have value. God paid the price of my sin that I may live.” Do you believe it? Let that truth sink deeply into your soul. Deal with the sin. Be real with God. Our sin may leave us with some wrinkles and scars, but it does not change our value in God’s sight. God forgives through the gift of grace out of the expression of love. His love.

Moses was hungry for God’s presence and said, “Show me Your glory.” Moses spoke face to face with God. He understood the importance of the glory. God showed him goodness and his face shone with the glory of the Lord. The glory of God changes people. You can never have an encounter with God and remain unchanged.

It is an odd word to say, spell, and understand - Prodigal. Who are they? Am I one? The most common definitions are along these lines, one who spends or gives lavishly and foolishly or one who returns after an extended absence. We will look at both, but the focus will be on the latter. As we talk about it, take inventory of your own life. Ask the tough questions. If sin is revealed, do not hide it, remove yourself from it and return to what is good.

We can tend to focus a lot on our image. What is our true image versus our perceived image? Do we see ourselves the way God sees us? Are we reflecting His glory? The more time we spend in the presence of the Lord, the more we will look and act like Him. What I see should be less about the physical and more about the spiritual. Let the eyes of God determine our self-image and respond accordingly.

Ever feel ripped off when trying to help someone? Ever fell taken advantage of, abused, and used? Of course, we all have. In the account Luke gives of the ten lepers who were made well we get a real look at the heart of man. All were healed, but only one returns to express his thanks. We may not all suffer with a physical disease, but we all deal with the disease of sin. Jesus is the only one who can heal our sin-sick soul. We show our thanks by dealing with the inner issue of sin, responding to Jesus, accepting the cost of following him and living out a new journey of powerful faith.

It is time to stop and take an up to date inventory of our life. What is God doing? Recount His faithfulness and thank Him. Maybe even sit down and write a brief “thank you” note to God. Father, God, Lord – address Him as you recognize Him. Next, adore Him. Tell Him how you love Him. Then, what your you are thankful for at this moment. Lastly, until next time. Love, with your name. This is a good practice to help us maintain an awareness of God’s goodness around us every day.

I AM the Bread

With Thanksgiving think about coming away from the table stuffed like you could not take one more bite. Then dessert comes out and you just got to have it. That is the nature of hunger. It is never satisfied. Jesus called Himself the “Bread of Life”. There is one bread that will not last or sustain us. There is another that cannot spoil and endures to eternal life. What is your motivation? Where do you stand with “I AM”?

It is Veteran’s Day, a day to honor and give thanks to men and women who have served and sacrificed to preserve our freedom. Thank you! As we look at a few Scriptures, we realize God fights for us and our victory is through Him. Thanks be to God! When we look back, most of our troubles turn into faded memories.
